Sequential Artists’ Pub this Friday night!

This Friday, October 3rd at 9pm CST, be sure to join the Sequential Artists’ Pub as they talk about… THIS SITE! That’s right, over 50 people are going to stampede my site’s archives and talk about me behind my back in real-time for all to hear. I’ll be at my day-job during the podcast, but I might show up toward the end.

This MIGHT be a good time to advertise here using Project Wonderful, too!

Notes for my lovely/handsome reviewers:

  • Some parts look different on Internet Explorer. If somebody mentions the background on my ad box(fixed) or weird alignment of certain things(too minor to fix), they’re using IE. Just preventing confusion here.
  • Site redesign is in early planning stages, and I’m skilled enough to implement any ideas you throw at me.
  • I’m already aware of how weird July’s comics were. It was various experiments mixed together.
  • It’s okay to be honest. My ego level has reached unhealthily-high levels.
  • Thanks in advance for all your wonderful comments.

Just shutting the rabbit up for ya. ;)

(My, wouldn’t this image be good to use in some forums? If your forum allows 800px-wide images, I give you permission as long as the website address is readable.)

Think it’s crazy enough when you shake a laser pointer in front of a regular cat? Let’s do that in front of some human-sized cats!

Comic reviewed on Sequential Artists’ Pub

Last Friday, October 3rd, Kenny Chronicles was reviewed on the Sequential Artists’ Pub. I finally listened to it today, and I kept wanting to interject during the discussion about social networks, but that’s hard to do when it’s already recorded, heh. I use the ShareThis plugin too, and really like how easy it is to use. I use Bookmark Me for the Spanish site because of the great list of foreign social networks it has. StumbleUpon has been a strong traffic driver for me. Sure, they don’t stick around, but at this point traffic is traffic.

Now, a few replies on the review of my site:
For the Spanish version, I have a separate installation of WordPress, and inserted php code on the single-comic template to go to that day’s archive on the Spanish site. The link on the homepage simply goes to the Spanish homepage. I did translate all that myself, although I rely heavily on Google Translate and my paperback Spanish-English dictionary, along with Google Search for grammar-checking and Wikipedia for pop culture checking. The translations are basically to increase my fluency with Spanish.

I just now fixed the display problem with windows smaller than 1024 pixels. I had no intention of designing for smaller screens, but I didn’t consider people resizing their windows to that size. Added an “overflow: hidden” attribute and that was easy. Edit: Oops, that somehow broke the header in Firefox 2.0! Guess we’ll just hope nobody shrinks the window that slim in Firefox 3.0(IE doesn’t have that problem). I’ll see if there’s another option.

I hand-letter my words, even when doing it 100% digitally. I simply prefer the look. When going 100% digital(after the July comics), I actually typed everything with an Arial font, then traced over them. Time-consuming, but still faster than a quill pen.

Cheers, Sequential Artists' PubI’d like to thank everybody for the comments and criticism, especially considering everybody at the Pub is a cartoonist themselves. Your perspectives are truly helpful.

As soon as I saw today’s Garfield comic, I had to respond to it, with better art, better camera angles, and better everything else(except marketing).

I do want to commend the Paws team for a good visual gag.

I assure you, I’m keeping the comic PG to PG-13. He will not lift his arms.

Do the time warp again

Saturday, October 25th at 10pm(TODAY!), I’m going to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Route 66 Theater in Webb City, MO. Never seen the movie before, but I have friends that love it.

If you’re in the Joplin, MO area, please see it with me. The site says to wear your costume, and I assume from last year’s photos that it means Rocky Horror Picture Show costumes. I will be wearing regular clothes. Hopefully all black, at least so I can blend in a little.

For more info, click here for the Route 66 Music Theater Myspace page. For a map, even if you THINK you know where Main Street is(many get it wrong, as it’s not very main), click here.

Damnit, Janet, I can’t hear you

Figured I’d give an update about the Rocky Horror Picture Show I saw last night. I feared this might happen: when you go to a theater filled with people who have already seen the movie, many of whom have seen it over a hundred times, everybody’s yelling stuff out from time to time. Add to that, though, that yelling stuff out is ENCOURAGED, it’s really an event for people who already love the movie. I had never seen the movie before, and watched the trailer just the day before. I’ll have to rent the DVD so I can find out what actually happened in the movie. DID they actually do any time warps?
Also, add in the fact that there were audio difficulties.
All that said, going to an “interactive” showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show is a fun event. Prop bags were sold, so at the appropriate moments, you were likely to get hit in the eye with rice, toast, toilet paper or a playing card. The concession stand surely enjoyed it, because after I did my fair share of yelling, I needed a drink. Drink sales were surely strong with everybody else doing more yelling than me. I plan on going next year(they did it last year too, so I’m guessing this is an annual thing now), and hopefully I’ll have drank something that has loosened me up a bit. It’s within walking distance, so that’s fine. I hope to watch the movie in silence with good speakers/headphones at least 3 times between now and then.
