THIS was completely unexpected! ! I gotta say, they seem in good hands, considering Disney’s focus on innovation and Marvel’s focus on a dying medium. Marvel knows Disney can help them out. As Brad Guigar pointed out on Twitter, I seriously wonder how this would affect Marvel’s presence at the Universal Studios theme parks. Which Spider Man ride shall we visit; the one at Universal or the one at Disney World?

In addition, this means you’ll start seeing hidden Mickeys in comic book movies! Keep your eyes peeled, folks! As for crossovers, Brad Guigar mentioned one that just might make the Earth explode: Hercules/Hercules!

Next week, I’m going to Toonfest to chat it up with other cartoonists, including the art director for MAD Magazine. I’m also visiting family there.
Since I’ll be so busy, I won’t be drawing any comics for the 14th and 17th. I do plan to update some, but no comics. One update will be the announcement of a new resource for cartoonists I’m putting together.

Toonfest happens every year in Marceline, MO. This year it’s the 18th & 19th, with most things happening on Saturday the 19th. This year’s lineup of speakers are Wiley Miller(Non Sequitor), Mark Fiore(political cartoonist), Dave Mowder(Hallmark illustrator), and Sam Viviano(MAD Magazine art director). On the first day of my week off from cartooning, I figure I’ll share a few secrets from the comic:

1. Kenny does in fact have nipples, somewhere under that fur.
2. One character still drinks from a sippy cup, and is not a child.
3. There is a gay cast member. However, I doubt it will ever come up in the story.
4. Patrick has a different father than Kenny.
5. Kenny is not 100% fox.

Do you create or translate a multi-lingual comic? Maybe you want to add a little local flair to your wording.

I have created the world’s first(far as I know) foreign sound effects dictionary. Cats don’t say “meow” in any other language(except Urdu). In fact, in Japanese, cats say “nya!”. If you want your sound effects to be understood in another language, or at the very least not draw away from the story because your spelling is weird, a dictionary is essential. Unfortunately, no standard dictionaries offer sound effects. I had to fix this.

My first plans were to create a list of Spanish sound effects on this site to help me with the Spanish version of the Kenny Chronicles. It would be nice if others could contribute, though. So I made it a wiki. This offers many more possibilities. Considering there wasn’t already something like this for other languages, and I do read comics in other languages, I decided to expand it. I’m starting with 6 languages, but I have a backlog of data that can expand that to 17 languages(not including Wikipedia). In fact, I still have a backlog of data(comic archives) for Spanish, French and German sound effects, so I still have a lot to contribute. I hope to eventually have every single modern language on there.

If your language isn’t listed, and you can contribute some sound effects, go ahead and create the page! Just do a search for your language pair(ex. “English-Russian”) and click “create this page”. The template will already be filled out with words that need translating. Complete as many or few entries as you want. If the language uses a different alphabet, you can use either the local alphabet or a romanized version. Preferably both.

“Captain Lou” Albano died today at the age of 76 due to multiple health complications. Probably known more for being that wrestling manager(He was? I never watch that stuff.), or the father in the “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” music video, he was also Mario in the show “Super Mario Brothers Super Show!”. This is not the year to be a celebrity. I shall hold off one more year.

And now some closing credits. I declare today, October 15th, to be International Do The Mario Day. You must now do the Mario.

EXTRA: The OPENING theme in English & German(fav)! (couldn’t find the Spanish opening)

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of Weird Al Yankovic and will flick your ear if you ever pronounce it “YankoVICH”, so I’ve gotta announce it to the world that he’s coming out with another collection of his best stuff. And by saying “best”, I MADE ABSOLUTELY SURE that “Dare To Be Stupid”, “Hardware Store” and “Albuquerque” were on there before saying that. They did a GREAT job of choosing the absolute best on this TWO-DISC SET.

If you don’t already have all his CDs and you’d rather just spend $12.99, this is THE CD to pre-order. It comes out October 26th and can be summoned HERE or by clicking on Al’s right nostril.

I just discovered a comic that I suppose is called “mycartoons.org“, whose tagline is “Funky, freaky, fluffy”(I think this should be the comic’s name). It’s filled with dark humor, and is consistently funny! Here are 3 good examples of his comic: SHARK! – BUNNY! – TEDDY BEAR!

I’m reading the entire archives and will continue to read it as it’s produced.

It’s also available in both English & German(“Bunt, bissig, böse”!), which helps my foreign sound effects dictionary out tremendously! One German comic had 4 different car honk sound effects! Jackpot! Also, one of his comics is the reason I’ve started putting “mature” warnings on some reference links. Currently, there are still some untranslated comics. I read from the most recent(#217) to #90, and after finding a sudden concentration of untranslated comics between 90-100, I decided I’ll check 1-100 later if they get translated. I recommend starting from the most recent and going back as far as you feel like going, since there’s no ongoing story to follow.

I plan on posting reviews of all my favorite comics starting in January(can’t introduce comics while they’re doing Christmas specials or on break), but I couldn’t wait to share this. The English version just went online last month, and I’m very excited about it.
